From diet plans and gym routines to prescription meds like Wegovy and Ozempic, Americans are actively searching for ways to lose weight. While people everywhere are hunting for weight loss answers, some states are way more obsessed.

We analyzed 222 of the most searched weight loss keywords across the U.S. between July 2024 and July 2025. That included everything from “how to lose belly fat” and “calorie calculator” to branded treatments like “Ozempic for weight loss.” Then we calculated the average monthly search volume per 100,000 residents in each state.

Here’s what we found.

The Top 5 States Most Focused on Weight Loss

  1. Virginia – 3,980
  2. New York – 3,926
  3. North Carolina – 3,903
  4. Illinois – 3,861
  5. Georgia – 3,813

In Virginia, nearly 1 in every 25 people is Googling weight loss-related terms every month. That includes searches for diets, workouts, and weight loss medications. New York and North Carolina follow closely behind, with Illinois and Georgia rounding out the top five.

Whether it’s about lifestyle change or trying new treatments, these are the states where weight loss is clearly top of mind.

The 5 States Least Motivated to Lose Weight

Average monthly searches per 100,000 people

  1. Alaska – 2,788
  2. Montana – 2,801
  3. New Mexico – 2,920

At the bottom of the list, search interest is lower, but still active. In Alaska and Montana, it’s closer to 1 in 35 people per month searching for weight loss help — still substantial, but notably behind states like Virginia or Illinois.

Ozempic Is the Most Searched Weight Loss Term Across the Nation

The data is clear: Americans are moving away from conventional weight loss methods toward pharmaceutical solutions. Across all 50 states, Ozempic was the most searched term related to weight loss. It outperformed every diet plan, every exercise trend, and even its prescription competitors. The medication, originally developed for diabetes, has become a go-to search term for people looking to manage their weight.

Average monthly Ozempic searches per 100k people

California leads the nation with more than 500 searches per 100,000, a notable figure given its large population.

Other high-interest states include Virginia, New York, Nevada, Maryland, and Texas, each with over 430 searches per 100,000 residents. Texas, Oregon, New Jersey, and Washington complete the top ten, showing strong interest across both coasts and regions in between.

What stands out is not just the volume, but the consistency. Even in states that do not rank near the top for overall weight loss search activity, Ozempic is still the most searched term, often receiving more attention than all diet-related keywords combined.

The Bottom Line: Demand for GLP-1s continues to grow as public awareness increases

Weight loss is one of the most searched health topics in the country, but people in Virginia, New York, and North Carolina are looking the hardest. Meanwhile, interest is still present but less intense in places like Alaska and Montana.

And no matter where you live, chances are high that if you’re searching for weight loss advice, Ozempic is at the top of the results.
