What is compounded semaglutide?

Down arrow

Compounded semaglutide is a GLP-1 medication used for chronic weight management.

Compounding involves creating personalized medications to meet specific patient needs, such as making a liquid form of a drug typically available only as a pill or addressing shortages of FDA-approved medications.

Compounded drugs are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies following state and federal guidelines but are not FDA-approved or evaluated for safety or effectiveness.

NiceRx partners with compounding pharmacies to provide compounded semaglutide products containing the same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy, using semaglutide base rather than semaglutide salts to ensure consistency with the FDA-approved formulations.

Black box warning

Compounded semaglutide is an injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)  prescription drug that can help people with obesity (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27) to lose weight and keep it off. This medication should be used in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Semaglutide is injected subcutaneously once weekly. Semaglutide is typically initiated at a low dose and is gradually increased over time.

If the patient does not tolerate a specific dose during the dose escalation period, consider delaying the dose escalation for 4 weeks.

You can administer at any time of the day, on the same day each week, with or without meals. Inject subcutaneously in the stomach (abdomen), thigh, or upper arm, and make sure to change the injection site with each dose.
