What is NovoSeven RT?

NovoSeven RT is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Novo Nordisk, Inc. NovoSeven RT (Coagulation Factor VIIa [Recombinant]) is a clotting factor indicated for:

  • Treatment of bleeding episodes and peri-operative management in adults and children with haemophilia A or hemophilia B with inhibitors to factor VIII or factor IX, congenital Factor VII deficiency, and Glanzmann’s thrombasthenia (a bleeding disorder that is caused by a blood abnormality) with refractoriness to platelet transfusions, with or without antibodies to platelets
  • Treatment of bleeding episodes and peri-operative management in adults with acquired hemophilia

Serious arterial and venous thrombotic events following administration of NovoSeven RT have been reported. Discuss the increased risks and explain the signs and symptoms of thrombotic and thromboembolic events to patients who will receive treatment and monitor patients for signs or symptoms of activation of the coagulation system and for thrombosis.

What doses of NovoSeven RT are available?

NovoSeven RT is available as a lyophilized powder in single-use vials of 1, 2, 5, or 8 mg recombinant coagulation factor VIIa (FVIIa). After reconstitution, the final solution contains 1 mg per mL (1000 micrograms per mL) of recombinant FVIIa and may be stored either at room temperature or refrigerated for up to 3 hours. Do not freeze reconstituted NovoSeven (coagulation factor VIIa (recombinant)) or store it in syringes. NovoSeven RT is for intravenous bolus use only.

NovoSeven RT contraindications

You should not use NovoSeven RT if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient coagulation Factor VIIa, recombinant
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in NovoSeven RT

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with NovoSeven RT
  • Have known hypersensitivity to mouse, hamster, or bovine proteins

NovoSeven RT is the trademark brand name for coagulation Factor VIIa, recombinant manufactured by Novo Nordisk, Inc. A generic version of coagulation Factor VIIa, recombinant is not available.
