What is Spiriva Respimat?
Spiriva Respimat is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Spiriva Respimat is an anticholinergic bronchodilator indicated for:
- The long-term, once-daily, maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and for reducing COPD exacerbations. (COPD includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
- The long-term, once-daily, maintenance treatment of asthma in patients 12 years of age and older. Spiriva Respimat is indicated for the relief of acute bronchospasm.
What doses of Spiriva Respimat are available?
Spiriva Respimat is available in inhalation spray form, in the following doses: 1.25 mcg or 2.5 mcg tiotropium per actuation with the Spiriva Respimat inhaler. Two actuations equal one dose (2.5 mcg or 5 mcg).
For oral inhalation only, to receive the full dose of medication, Spiriva Respimat must be administered as two inhalations once daily. For the treatment of COPD, use 2 inhalations of Spiriva Respimat 2.5 mcg once daily. For the treatment of asthma patients, 12 years and older, use 2 inhalations of Spiriva Respimat 1.25 mcg once daily.
Spiriva Respimat or Spiriva Handihaler devices are not rescue medicines and should not be used for treating sudden breathing problems or for sudden asthma symptoms.

- Upper respiratory tract infection, dry mouth, sinus infection, sinusitis, cough, sore throat

Spiriva Respimat contraindications
You should not use Spiriva Respimat if you:
- Are allergic to the active ingredient tiotropium bromide, ipratropium, or atropine
