What is Campral?

Campral is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Forest Laboratories, Inc. Campral is used to maintain abstinence from drinking alcohol in patients with alcohol dependence and alcohol abuse who are abstinent when treatment begins. It should be used as part of a psychosocial treatment program as it helps to reduce alcohol cravings.

Combining Campral with naltrexone helps to provide further support for alcohol abstinence. Naltrexone blocks the high you get when drinking, and acamprosate helps to reduce alcohol withdrawal symptoms that you may experience during the early stages of alcohol abstinence, such as sweating, anxiety, and sleep disturbances.

What doses of Campral are available?
