What is Exondys 51?

Exondys 51 is manufactured by Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. Exondys 51 is an antisense oligonucleotide with FDA approval (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, (DMD) in patients who have a confirmed mutation of the DMD gene that is compliant to exon skipping. Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is caused mainly by internal deletions in the gene for dystrophin protein essential for maintaining muscle cell membrane integrity in DMD patients.

This approval is under accelerated approval based on an increase in dystrophin production in skeletal muscle seen in some patients treated with Exondys 51. Continued approval for this use may be based on verification of a clinical benefit in confirmatory trials.

What doses of Exondys 51 are available?

Exondys 51 is available as an injection, in the following doses: 100 mg/2 mL in a single-dose vial, and 500 mg/10 mL in a single-dose vial.

The recommended dose is 30 mg/kg of body weight once weekly. Administer as an intravenous infusion over 35 to 60 minutes.
