What is Fetroja?

Fetroja (cefiderocol) is a prescription medication manufactured by Shionogi Inc. It is a new cephalosporin with FDA approval as an additional treatment option against antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.

Fetroja is recommended for use in patients 18 years of age or older for the treatment of hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia, (HABP/VABP) caused by Gram-negative bacteria: Acinetobacter baumannii complex, Escherichia coli (E. coli), Enterobacter cloacae complex, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Nosocomial pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Serratia marcescens. It is also used for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis caused by susceptible Gram-negative microorganisms.

To limit the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the efficacy of Fetroja and other antibacterial drugs, it should only be used to treat or prevent infections that are proven or suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

What doses of Fetroja are available?

Fetroja is available in injection form, in the following doses: 1 gram as a lyophilized powder for reconstitution in single-dose vials.

The recommended dosage is 2 grams for injection every 8 hours by intravenous infusion over 3 hours. Dose adjustments are required for patients with renal impairment.

See the full prescribing information and always speak with a healthcare professional about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.

Fetroja active ingredients

The active ingredient of Fetroja is cefiderocol, a siderophore cephalosporin. Cefiderocol inhibits cell wall biosynthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins.
