What is Galzin?

Galzin (generic name, zinc acetate) is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. Zinc acetate therapy is indicated for maintenance treatment of patients with Wilson’s disease who have been initially treated with a chelating agent

What doses of Galzin are available?

Galzin is available in capsule form, in the following doses: 25 mg zinc acetate capsules.

Take Galzin on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 to 3 hours after a meal. Swallow the capsule whole, do not crush, chew, break, or open it. If you miss a dose take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Store Galzin capsules at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.

Galzin contraindications

You should not use Galzin if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient zinc acetate
  • Have had an allergic reaction to any of the other ingredients in Galzin
  • Have kidney disease
  • Have any conditions that make it hard for your body to absorb nutrients from food
  • Are younger than 10 years of age
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed – Zinc appears in breast milk

Talk to your doctor before using Galzin if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Galzin
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
