What is Humalog Mix 50/50?
Humalog Mix 50/50 is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company. It is a mixture of insulin lispro protamine, an intermediate-acting human insulin analog, and insulin lispro, a rapid-acting human insulin analog used to help improve glycemic control in patients with type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
What doses of Humalog Mix 50/50 are available?
Humalog Mix 50/50 is available as an injectable suspension, in 10 mL multiple-dose vials, and 3 mL single-patient-use prefilled pens (KwikPens). Inject subcutaneously in the abdominal wall, thigh, upper arm, or buttocks within 15 minutes before a meal.
After opening, store Humalog Mix 50/50 at room temperature. Discard any part not used after 28 days or if it has passed its expiration date. Do not put Humalog Mix 50/50 back in the refrigerator after it has been used. Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and pets.
Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), hypoglycemia, or death due to dosing errors have occurred due to dispensing, prescribing, changes in insulin regimens, or errors during use. Do not share KwikPens or insulin syringes, even if a new needle is attached.

In rare instances, Humalog Mix 50/50 can cause more serious side effects. These can include:
