What is Hyftor?

Hyftor is an FDA-approved (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) medication manufactured by Nobelpharma America LLC. Nobelpharma’s Hyftor previously received orphan drug status, as the first topical treatment for the treatment of facial angiofibroma associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older. TSC is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in various organs, such as the brain, eyes, heart, kidneys, skin, and lungs.

What doses of Hyftor are available?

Hyftor is available as a topical gel, in the following doses: 2 mg of sirolimus per gram (0.2%).

Hyftor active ingredients

Hyftor contains sirolimus, an mTOR inhibitor immunosuppressant as the active ingredient.

Hyftor side effects

The most common side effects of Hyftor in clinical trials include:

  • Dry skin
  • Application site irritation
  • Erythema
  • Pruritus, acne, acneiform dermatitis
  • Skin hemorrhage, and skin irritation
  • Ocular hyperemia

In rare instances, Hyftor can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Serious infection
  • Malignancy
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Non-infectious pneumonitis
  • Embryo-fetal toxicity – females should use effective contraception before and during treatment, and for 12 weeks after the final dose
  • Male infertility

Hyftor drug interactions

Hyftor can interact with other medications. These include:

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors
  • Substrates and Inhibitors of CYP3A
  • Live vaccine immunizations

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Hyftor. Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Hyftor contraindications

You should not use Hyftor if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient sirolimus
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Hyftor
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Talk to your doctor before using Hyftor if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Hyftor

Hyftor generic

Hyftor is the trademark brand name for sirolimus manufactured by Nobelpharma America LLC. A generic version of sirolimus is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Hyftor savings through NiceRx.
