Am I eligible for Ingrezza patient assistance?

We review each Ingrezza enrollment application individually to determine if you are eligible. Each assistance program has its own eligibility criteria and the factors considered by most programs are:

  • I am a permanent, legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico
  • I am uninsured or my insurance doesn’t cover my medication
  • I meet certain income eligibility requirements

How do I apply for the Ingrezza patient assistance program?

Our process makes it as easy as possible to apply for the Ingrezza patient assistance program. Begin by completing the enrollment application form on our website. Tell us about any medications that you are taking, including Ingrezza. You must also provide details about your healthcare provider, your insurance plan, and your household income. This is required by the pharmaceutical manufacturers who will supply the medication, so it is important to make sure this information is accurate and up to date.

We will review the information that you have provided to determine whether you are eligible for patient assistance. If we can pre-qualify you for assistance, NiceRx will handle the full enrollment process on your behalf. If you are approved by the pharmaceutical company, you will typically start receiving your medication in 6 – 8 weeks.

What is Ingrezza?

Ingrezza contains the prescription medicine valbenazine. Ingrezza is used for the treatment of a condition known as tardive dyskinesia in adults. Tardive dyskinesia is a nervous disorder that causes uncontrolled repetitive movement of muscles in the face, tongue, or other parts of the body.

Ingrezza is not a cure for tardive dyskinesia and it has not been established if it is safe for use or effective in children.

Ingrezza should be taken as prescribed by your doctor, with or without food. You may need to have an ECG (electrocardiograph) to check your heart function while taking this medicine. You are advised not to breast-feed while taking Ingrezza or for at least 5 days after you have stopped. You should not stop taking this medication unless your doctor advises you to do so.

Ingrezza active ingredients

Valbenazine is thought to work by blocking the action of what is known as vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2). This transporter normally controls the movement of a chemical called monoamine from cytoplasm in cells to synaptic vesicles for storage and release. Synaptic vesicles are involved in how electrical signals (nerve impulses) are sent through your body.

How exactly valbenazine works for the treatment of tardive dyskinesia is however, not fully understood.

Ingrezza side effects

The most common side effects caused by Ingrezza include:

  • Headache
  • Blurred vision, dizziness, feeling unsteady
  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation

In rare instances, Ingrezza can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Irregular heartbeats
  • Drowsiness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Feeling light-headed or faint

Your doctor will assess the benefits of using Ingrezza against your risk of side effects.

Ingrezza drug interactions

  • Antidepressants such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors – isocarboxazid, phenelzine, or selegiline
  • Antidepressants known as SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) – paroxetine and fluoxetine
