What is Kisqali Femara Co-Pack?

Kisqali Femara Co-Pack is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Kisqali Femara Co-Pack, contains ribociclib, a kinase inhibitor, and letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor. It is used as an initial endocrine-based treatment of pre/perimenopausal or postmenopausal women with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer.

It is also used with fulvestrant as initial endocrine-based therapy or after disease progression on endocrine therapy to treat postmenopausal women with HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer.

What doses of Kisqali Femara Co-Pack are available?

Kisqali Femara Co-Pack is available in tablet form, in the following doses: Kisqali 200 mg, Femara 2.5 mg.

Kisqali Femara Co-Pack tablets are taken orally with or without food. The recommended starting daily dose of Kisqali is 600 mg once daily for 21 days followed by 7 days off Kisqali treatment. Take Femara as one 2.5 mg tablet continuously for a 28-day cycle.

Low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood may increase your risk of QT prolongation. This risk may be further exacerbated if you use certain drugs, such as diuretics or if you have severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting.

The most common side effects of Kisqali Femara Co-Pack in clinical trials compared to placebo include:

  • Neutropenia, leukopenia, anemia
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Infections
  • Tiredness
  • Diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite
  • Alopecia (hair loss)
  • Headache, back pain
  • Rash

In rare instances, Kisqali Femara Co-Pack can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Interstitial lung disease (ILD)/Pneumonitis – patients treated with CDK 4/6 inhibitors (Kisqali) should be monitored for pulmonary symptoms
  • Severe cutaneous adverse reactions
  • QT interval prolongation – monitor electrocardiograms (ECGs) and electrolytes before starting treatment
  • Hepatobiliary toxicity – perform liver function tests before starting treatment
  • Neutropenia – perform a complete blood count (CBC) before starting treatment
  • Embryo-fetal toxicity

Kisqali Femara Co-Pack drug interactions

Kisqali Femara Co-Pack can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Strong CYP3A inhibitors
  • Strong CYP3A inducers
  • Drugs known to prolong QT interval – amiodarone, dronedarone, pimozide, ondansetron
  • Estrogens (such as estradiol), tamoxifen, and tibolone
  • Rifamycins – rifampin, rifabutin
  • St. John’s wort
  • Drugs used to treat seizures – carbamazepine, and phenytoin
  • Ergot alkaloids – ergotamine
  • Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice

Kisqali Femara Co-Pack contraindications

You should not use Kisqali Femara Co-Pack if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredients ribociclib or letrozole
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Kisqali Femara Co-Pack
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant – use effective contraception during therapy with Kisqali Femara Co-Pack and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose
