How it works

  • Enroll online

Get started by filling out the online enrollment application to find out if you are eligible for assistance.

  • Pre-qualification

NiceRx verifies your eligibility for medication assistance and notifies you if you are pre-qualified. The pharmaceutical company provides your medication for free, and you only pay our service fee.

  • Submit documents

We will request documents to be submitted by you and your healthcare provider that are required by the pharmaceutical company to complete your enrollment.

  • Receive medication

Once approved, the pharmaceutical company typically ships a 90-day supply of medication to your home or healthcare provider’s address. Final acceptance is determined by the pharmaceutical company.

What is Krystexxa?

Krystexxa contains the prescription medicine pegloticase. Pegloticase breaks down uric acid into a harmless chemical which is then excreted from the body. Krystexxa injections are used in adults for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of chronic gout that has not been treated successfully with other medication at the maximum dose available, or when other medication is not recommended. Krystexxa is normally given after other treatments have been tried.

Krystexxa is not recommended for treatment when there are high levels of uric acid in the body, but there are no signs or symptoms of gout. Krystexxa is normally given once every 2 weeks as an infusion into a vein. The infusion can take at least two hours to complete as it must be given slowly.

You may find that you have an increase in gout flare-ups when you first start taking this medication. Your progress will be monitored regularly. Inform your doctor if you see no improvement in symptoms after 3 months. Your doctor may prescribe other medications for your gout in the first 6 months of treatment with Krystexxa.

Krystexxa active ingredients

Krystexxa contains pegloticase which is an enzyme that specifically acts on uric acid. Pegloticase works by increasing the rate at which uric acid is oxidized in the body to form allantoin, thereby reducing the uric acid concentration. Allantoin is a chemically inactive, water-soluble substance that is easily removed from the body through renal excretion in the urine.
