What is Kybella?

Kybella injections are an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Allergan. Kybella is the only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment for adults that destroys excess fat cells under the chin and jawline (submental fat), also called “double chin” to improve the appearance of submental fullness. Kybella can be used in combination with filler injections or laser treatments.

It is an alternative to surgical procedures for people who are not good candidates for facial plastic surgeries like liposuction or a neck lift. There is no downtime or recovery time needed with Kybella treatment.

Weight gain or the effects of aging can over time cause a recurrence of the double chin fat. If this occurs, you can have further Kybella treatments in the future. It is not known if Kybella is safe and effective for the treatment of fat outside of the submental area or in children under 18 years of age.

What doses of Kybella are available?

Kybella is available in injection form, in the following doses: 10 mg/mL.

Kybella is administered as a series of injections to the treatment area under the chin, destroying fat cells and producing gradual results. Everyone’s chin profile is different, so your physician will tailor treatment to you. Kybella is normally given in a 15 – 20 minute treatment session. The number of treatment sessions will vary depending on the amount of fat under the chin area and your treatment goals.

Please read the prescribing information and always speak with the most appropriate healthcare professional such as a plastic surgeon about your treatment plan so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
