What is Pred Forte?
Pred Forte is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication distributed by Allergan. It is used to treat the symptoms of conjunctivitis and other ophthalmic inflammatory conditions. Pred Forte may be used alone or in combination with other medications.
Pred Forte is classed as a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It reduces irritation, burning, redness, and swelling of eye inflammation caused by chemicals, heat, radiation, allergy, or any other foreign objects in the eye.
What doses of Pred Forte are available?
Pred Forte is available as an ophthalmic suspension, in the following doses: 1%.
To apply the eye drops wash your hands, tilt your head back and look up, pull the lower eyelid down, and squeeze 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) 2 to 4 times a day. You may apply the drops every hour on the first 2 days of treatment. To prevent eye injury do not allow the tip of the dropper to touch your eye.
Benzalkonium chloride a preservative in Pred forte may be absorbed by soft contact lenses, changing the color of the contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before using Pred forte and replace them 15 minutes afterward. Benzalkonium chloride may also cause eye irritation, especially if you have dry eyes or cornea disorders.

Pred Forte contraindications
You should not use Pred Forte if you:
- Are allergic to the active ingredient prednisolone acetate
- Are allergic to benzalkonium chloride or any of the other ingredients
- Suffer from tuberculosis of the eye
- Have any injuries to or ulcers on the cornea
- Have acute untreated purulent ocular infections such as epithelial herpes simplex, keratitis, vaccinia, or varicella
- Are less than 12 years old
- Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
Talk to your doctor before using Pred Forte if you:
- Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Pred Forte
- Have eye ulcers or have had a disease or treatment that caused the eye tissue to become thin
- Have glaucoma or are being treated for raised pressure in the eye
- Have had surgery for cataracts
- Have bacterial, viral or fungal eye infections
