What is Prestalia?

Prestalia is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Symplmed LLC. Prestalia contains perindopril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, and amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) to lower blood pressure:

  • In patients not controlled with monotherapy
  • As initial therapy in patients needing multiple drugs to achieve their blood pressure goals

What doses of Prestalia are available?

Prestalia is available in tablet form, in the following doses: (perindopril/amlodipine) 3.5/2.5 mg, 7/5 mg, and 14/10 mg. Begin treatment at 3.5/2.5 mg, once daily. Adjust the dose according to blood pressure goals with 1 to 2 weeks between titration steps.

Always speak with your healthcare provider for medical advice about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.

Prestalia active ingredients

Prestalia contains perindopril arginine and amlodipine besylate as the active ingredients.

Prestalia side effects

The most common side effects of Prestalia in clinical trials include:

  • Edema
  • Cough
  • Headache, dizziness

In rare instances, Prestalia can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Anaphylactoid reactions, including angioedema (head, neck, or intestinal)
  • Myocardial infarction – worsening angina and acute myocardial infarction particularly in patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease
  • Hypotension
  • Hyperkalemia – monitor renal function during treatment

Prestalia drug interactions

Prestalia can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Aliskiren
  • Potassium supplements and potassium-sparing diuretics
  • Lithium
  • Injectable gold
  • Other treatments that inhibit the renin-angiotensin system
  • Simvastatin – in doses greater than 20 mg daily
  • NSAIDs (naproxen, ibuprofen) – the risk of renal impairment and loss of antihypertensive effect
  • Diuretics
  • CYP3A inhibitors
  • Drugs that increase potassium levels in the blood – ARBs including losartan, valsartan, birth control pills, and sacubitril

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Prestalia.

Prestalia contraindications

You should not use Prestalia if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredients perindopril arginine or amlodipine besylate
  • Have had an allergic reaction to any of the other ingredients in Prestalia
  • Have a history of angioedema or hypersensitivity to any ACE-inhibitor or to amlodipine
  • Are over 65 years of age
  • Have renal impairment
  • Have hepatic impairment
  • Have heart failure
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant – may cause fetal toxicity and harm to your unborn baby
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Talk to your doctor before using Prestalia if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Prestalia
  • Are taking salt substitutes or potassium supplements

Prestalia is the trademark brand name for perindopril arginine and amlodipine besylate manufactured by Symplmed LLC. A generic version of perindopril arginine and amlodipine besylate is available.
