  • I am a permanent, legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico
  • I am uninsured or my insurance doesn’t cover my medication
  • I meet certain income eligibility requirements

How do I apply for the Prialt patient assistance program?

Our process makes it as easy as possible to apply for the Prialt patient assistance program. Begin by completing the enrollment application form on our website. Tell us about any medications that you are taking, including Prialt. You must also provide details about your healthcare provider, your insurance plan, and your household income. This is required by the pharmaceutical manufacturers who will supply the medication, so it is important to make sure this information is accurate and up to date.

We will review the information that you have provided to determine whether you are eligible for patient assistance. If we can pre-qualify you for assistance, NiceRx will handle the full enrollment process on your behalf. If you are approved by the pharmaceutical company, you will typically start receiving your medication in 6 – 8 weeks.

How much does Prialt cost without Insurance?

Prialtprices without insurance will vary depending on how much you buy. Prices will also vary by retailer. As a guide, the cost for Prialt intrathecal solution (100 mcg/mL) is around $850 for a supply of 1 milliliter(s).

What is Prialt?

Prialt contains the prescription medicine ziconotide, which is classed as a non-narcotic (not addictive) pain killer. It works by blocking pain signals from the nerves in your body to your brain. It is used to treat severe long term pain that cannot be treated with other pain medications.

Prialt is given continuously day and night using an infusion pump attached to a catheter placed into the area near your spinal cord (intrathecal injection). This medicine must be given or under the direct supervision of a healthcare professional experienced in the technique of intrathecal administration, and who is familiar with the drug and device labeling. Strict procedures must be used during the preparation of the Prialt solution and refilling of the infusion pump to reduce the risk of infection. It is possible you may need to use Prialt for many months to many years. Your progress with this treatment will be checked regularly by your doctor.

Prialt active ingredients

Prialt works by blocking calcium channels on the surface of the nerve cells that transmit the pain signals. The flow of calcium into the nerve cells is blocked and ziconotide interferes with the transmission of pain signals within the spine. This results in pain relief.

Prialt must only be given in the form of an intrathecal injection through an infusion pump attached to the body. Your healthcare professional will give you this injection. There is an option to surgically implant the infusion pump into your body, or alternatively worn on the outside of your body. The pump controls how quickly the medicine is injected into your body. Ziconotide doses are based on weight. Inform your doctor if you gain or lose weight as your dose will need adjusting.

Prialt side effects

The most common side effects caused by Prialt include:

  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Nausea
  • Changes in eye movements

In rare instances, Prialt can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Feeling like you might pass out
  • Itching skin and blisters
  • Changes in mood and well being
  • Memory problems

Your doctor will assess the benefits of using Prialt against your risk of side effects.
