How it works

  • Enroll online

Get started by filling out the online enrollment application to find out if you are eligible for assistance.

  • Pre-qualification

NiceRx verifies your eligibility for medication assistance and notifies you if you are pre-qualified. The pharmaceutical company provides your medication for free, and you only pay our service fee.

  • Submit documents

We will request documents to be submitted by you and your healthcare provider that are required by the pharmaceutical company to complete your enrollment.

  • Receive medication

Once approved, the pharmaceutical company typically ships a 90-day supply of medication to your home or healthcare provider’s address. Final acceptance is determined by the pharmaceutical company.

What is Rapaflo?

Rapaflo is an alpha-blocker medication used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia in adult men.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also called prostate enlargement, is a condition where your prostate enlarges. Your prostate is a gland that men have beneath their bladder. It secrets substances that mix with your sperm and other fluids when you ejaculate to create semen. With BPH your prostate enlarges due to a reason other than cancer. It could be caused by a range of factors, like diet and aging. A build-up of hormones, like testosterone, in the prostate is also thought to be an underlying cause of BPH.

Common symptoms of BPH can include problems starting to urinate, not being able to urinate, and a weak stream. Over time, BPH can cause complications like urinary tract infections, bladder stones, and chronic kidney problems.

Rapaflo helps to ease the symptoms of BPH by relaxing muscle tissue around your prostate and bladder, making it easier for you to urinate. It is taken orally as a capsule that can be swallowed with water.

Rapaflo active ingredients

The active ingredient in Rapaflo is called silodosin. When you swallow a Rapaflo capsule, it’s broken down in your gut and the silodosin is absorbed into your bloodstream. Silodosin is then transported around your body to your prostate.

This active ingredient then attaches itself to structures called alpha receptors on your prostate, bladder, and prostatic urethra (the tube that connects your bladder and your prostate to your penis). The receptors are activated, causing the muscle tissue in these organs to relax and open up. This allows your urine to flow more easily, relieving your symptoms of BPH.

Rapaflo side effects & Rapaflo drug interactions

Common Rapaflo side effects include headaches, dizziness, nasal congestion, upper respiratory infections, changes in blood pressure, diarrhea, and retrograde ejaculation. Retrograde ejaculation is when semen passes into your bladder when you orgasm, rather than being ejaculated. It’s not harmful, but it can make you effectively infertile.

In rare cases Rapaflo can cause more serious side effects, including allergic reactions to the medication, reduced liver function, and changes to your pupils that can affect cataract surgery.

Medications that are known or thought to interact with Rapaflo, potentially impacting its effectiveness, include:

  • Other alpha-blocker medications
  • Antihypertensive medications taken to lower blood pressure
  • CYP3A4 inhibitors, like ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, or ritonavir
  • PDE5 inhibitor erectile dysfunction medications, like sildenafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil

Rapaflo warnings & precautions

Don’t take Rapaflo if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient silodosin
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Rapaflo (listed in the leaflet which comes with the medication)
  • Have severe kidney or liver problems
  • Are female
  • Are under 18 years of age

Talk to your physician before taking Rapaflo if you:

  • Have heart disease
  • Have prostate cancer
  • Have low blood pressure
  • Have kidney disease or are on dialysis
  • Have a condition that you need to take a diuretic for
  • Are on a low-salt diet

Rapaflo can cause side effects, like dizziness and fainting, that can make driving, using machinery, or performing other hazardous tasks more dangerous. You should avoid doing so when taking Rapaflo until you’re confident you know how it affects you.
