What is Reopro?

Reopro is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Janssen Biologics. It is an antiplatelet agent used for the prevention of cardiac ischemic complications in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention/PCI, (coronary angioplasty with or without stent placement) a coronary artery procedure, and to prevent acute myocardial infarction in patients with unstable angina who do not respond to conventional treatment. It has also been used for thrombolysis in patients with the peripheral arterial occlusive disease and arterial thrombosis

A heart attack may occur when blood vessels in the heart are blocked by blood clots. Blood clots can sometimes form during PCI. ReoPro is used in combination with aspirin and heparin to keep your blood from clotting.

What doses of Reopro are available?

Reopro is available as a solution for intravenous (IV) use, in the following doses: Single-use vials containing 2 mg/mL of abciximab.

The recommended dose of ReoPro is a 0.25 mg/kg intravenous bolus followed by a 0.125 μg/kg/min continuous infusion. Following administration of ReoPro, free plasma concentrations decline very rapidly with an initial half-life of minutes and a 2nd phase half-life of 30 minutes. However, its effects on platelet function can be seen for up to 48 hours. After discontinuation of treatment, platelet function returns gradually to normal.

Please see the full drug information and always speak with your healthcare provider about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
