What is Rezvoglar?

Rezvoglar is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Eli Lilly and company. It is a long-acting human insulin used to improve glycemic control in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Rezvoglar is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis.

Rezvoglar was approved as a biosimilar insulin product to Sanofi’s Lantus (insulin glargine), which means that the biological product is approved based on data showing that it is highly similar to an FDA-approved biological product, known as the reference product and that there is no clinical difference between the biosimilar product and the reference product.

What doses of Rezvoglar are available?

Rezvoglar is available in injection form, in the following doses: 100 units/mL as a 3 mL single-patient-use Rezvoglar KwikPen prefilled pen, for subcutaneous use.

Rezvoglar active ingredients

Rezvoglar contains insulin glargine-aglr as the active ingredient.

Rezvoglar side effects

The most common side effects of Rezvoglar in clinical trials include:

  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Injection site reactions
  • Lipodystrophy
  • Pruritus, rash, edema, and weight gain

In rare instances, Rezvoglar can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia with changes in insulin regimen
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Hypokalemia

Rezvoglar drug interactions

Rezvoglar can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Drugs that affect glucose metabolism
  • Antiadrenergic drugs such as beta-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine, and reserpine
  • Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) – fluid retention and heart failure with concomitant use

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Rezvoglar.

Rezvoglar contraindications

You should not use Rezvoglar if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient insulin glargine-aglr
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Rezvoglar
  • Have hypoglycemia
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant

Talk to your doctor before using Rezvoglar if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Rezvoglar
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Rezvoglar is the trademark brand name for insulin glargine-aglr manufactured by Eli Lilly and company. A generic version of insulin glargine-aglr is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Rezvoglar savings through NiceRx.
