What is Rixubis?
Rixubis is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Baxalta Incorporated. Rixubis (Coagulation Factor IX [Recombinant]) is an antihemophilic clotting factor indicated in adults and children with hemophilia B for the control and prevention of bleeding episodes, perioperative management, and routine prophylaxis.
It has been found that men on prophylaxis treatment with Rixubis have a 75 percent lower annual bleeding rate than patients receiving on-demand treatment. There were no reports of serious adverse effects.
What doses of Rixubis are available?
Rixubis is available as a lyophilized powder in single-use vials containing nominally 250, 500, 1000, 2000, or 3000 international units.
Rixubis is for intravenous use after reconstitution with diluent only. For the control and prevention of bleeding episodes and perioperative management; one international unit of Rixubis per kg of body weight increases the circulating activity of factor IX by 0.7 international units/dL for patients <12 years of age and 0.9 international units/dL for patients ≥12 years of age.
For routine prophylaxis; patients <12 years of age, 60 to 80 international units per kg twice weekly. Patients ≥ 12 years of age, 40 to 60 international units per kg twice weekly.
Titration of dose may be necessary depending upon the individual patient’s age, bleeding pattern, and physical activity. Always speak with a healthcare professional about any medical problems or changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
Rixubis active ingredients
Rixubis contains recombinant coagulation factor IX (rFIX) as the active ingredient.
Rixubis side effects
The most common side effects of Rixubis in clinical trials include:
