To find out if you are eligible for Santyl assistance you can apply online using our enrollment application. Each pharmaceutical company sets its eligibility criteria, and we will review your application individually to determine if you may be eligible. The three main factors to consider are:

  • I am a permanent, legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico
  • I am uninsured or my insurance doesn’t cover my medication
  • I meet certain income eligibility requirements

How do I apply for the Santyl patient assistance program?

Our application process aims to make it as easy as possible to apply for the Santyl patient assistance program. The first step is to complete our online enrollment application. We will ask you for details about your healthcare provider, your insurance plan, and your household income as this information is required by the pharmaceutical companies. We may be able to help you apply for other patient assistance programs too, so be sure to tell us about any medications you are taking as well as Santyl.

NiceRx will review your application and determine whether you may be eligible for Santyl assistance. If so, we will handle the full enrollment process for you and prepare all required documents for your healthcare provider to sign. Once you are successfully enrolled in the Santyl patient assistance program, we will help you manage your prescription refills by requesting refills on your behalf throughout your enrollment period. At the end of your enrollment period, we will contact you for updated information and seek to re-enroll you so you can continue to access affordable Santyl.

What is Santyl?

Collagenase Santyl Ointment (Santyl) is an FDA-approved biologic enzymatic debrider manufactured by Smith & Nephew, Inc. for the treatment of skin ulcers and severe burns in adults.

Santyl is a sterile enzymatic debriding ointment that contains 250 collagenase units per gram of white petrolatum USP. The enzyme collagenase is derived from the fermentation by Clostridium histolyticum. Collagenase is an enzyme that breaks down collagen in necrotic tissue helping healthy tissue to grow. Proper wound care management is important to help remove non-living tissue from your wounds and to help wounds heal faster.

What doses of Santyl are available?

Santyl is available in a topical ointment form, in the following doses: 250 units/gram.

Wash your hands before and after applying Santyl. You may need to clean the wound and reapply the ointment if the treated area becomes soiled. The enzymes in Santyl may increase your risk of infection in the bloodstream. If an infection is present, use an appropriate topical antibiotic powder. The antibiotic should be applied to the wound before the application of Santyl.

The best pH range of collagenase is 6 to 8. Higher or lower pH conditions will decrease the enzyme’s activity. The enzymatic activity is also adversely affected by certain detergents and heavy metal ions such as mercury and silver which are used in some antiseptics. When such materials have been used, the site should be carefully cleaned by repeated washings with normal saline before Santyl is used.

You are advised to speak with a healthcare professional for medical advice or about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
