What is Somavert?

Somavert is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Pfizer Inc. It is a human growth hormone receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment of acromegaly in patients who have had an inadequate response to surgery or radiation therapy, or for whom these therapies are not appropriate. The goal of treatment is to normalize serum insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I levels).

What doses of Somavert are available?

Somavert is available in injection form, in the following doses: 10, 15, or 20 mg lyophilized powder in single-use vials for reconstitution.

After mixing Somavert powder with a diluent (sterile water for injection), store at room temperature and use within 6 hours after mixing. Initially administer a 40 mg loading dose subcutaneously under physician supervision. On the day after the loading dose, patients or caregivers begin daily subcutaneous injections of 10 mg. Adjust the dose in 5 mg increments or decrements until serum IGF-1 concentrations are maintained within age-adjusted normal range. Do not adjust the dose based on growth hormone (GH) levels or signs or symptoms of acromegaly. The dosage range is 10 to 30 mg once daily.

Please read the prescribing information and always speak with a healthcare professional for medical advice about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
