What is Tazverik?

Tazverik is a medication manufactured for Epizyme, Inc. It is a methyltransferase inhibitor with FDA approval (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) for:

  • The treatment of adults and pediatric patients aged 16 years and older with metastatic or locally advanced epithelioid sarcoma is not eligible for complete resection.
  • Adult patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma whose tumors are positive for an EZH2 mutation as detected by an FDA-approved test and who have received at least 2 prior systemic therapies
  • Adult patients with relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma who have no satisfactory alternative treatment options

The approval of Tazverik is under accelerated approval based on the overall response rate and duration of response. Continued approval for these indications may be contingent upon verification and description of clinical benefit in a confirmatory trial(s). The efficacy of tazemetostat was evaluated in the EZH-202 clinical study, an open-label, multicenter, phase 2 clinical trial.

What doses of Tazverik are available?

Tazverik is available in tablet form, in the following doses: 200 mg.

The recommended dosage is 800 mg taken orally twice daily with or without food.

Tazverik active ingredients

Tazverik contains the active ingredient tazemetostat, an EZH2 inhibitor that may help keep cancer cells from growing.

Tazverik side effects

The most common side effects of Tazverik in clinical trials include:

  • Pain
  • Tiredness
  • Nausea
  • Decreased appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Abdominal pain

In rare instances, Tazverik can cause more serious adverse reactions. These can include:

  • Increased risk of developing secondary malignancies, including T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, and acute myeloid leukemia
  • Embryo-fetal toxicity – can cause fetal harm

Tazverik drug interactions

Tazverik can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Strong and moderate cytochrome P450 (CYP)3A inhibitors
  • Strong and moderate CYP3A inducers
  •  St. John’s wort

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Tazverik.

Tazverik contraindications

You should not use Tazverik if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient tazemetostat
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Tazverik
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Talk to your doctor before using Tazverik if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Tazverik
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Tazverik generic

Tazverik is the trademark brand name for tazemetostat manufactured for Epizyme, Inc. A generic version of tazemetostat is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Tazverik savings through NiceRx.
