What is Vectical?

Vectical is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Galderma Laboratories, L.P. Vectical ointment is a form of vitamin D analog used for the topical treatment of mild to moderate plaque psoriasis in adult and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older. Calcitriol ointment is not recommended in patients with known or suspected disorders of calcium metabolism.

What doses of Vectical are available?

Vectical is available in an ointment form, in the following doses: 3mcg/g.

Apply the ointment to affected areas twice daily. The maximum weekly dose should not exceed 200 grams in adults. The maximum weekly dose should not exceed 100 grams in pediatric patients aged 2 to 6 years of age.

Vectical may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Avoid sunlight, sunlamps, or tanning beds, wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when going outdoors.

Read the patient information and drug information provided and always speak with your healthcare provider for medical advice about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.

Vectical active ingredients

Vectical contains calcitriol as the active ingredient.

Vectical side effects

The most common side effects of Vectical in clinical trials include:

  • Hypercalciuria
  • Skin discomfort
  • Skin irritation

In rare instances, Vectical can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium)

Your doctor will assess the benefits of using Vectical against your risk of adverse effects. Patients are encouraged to report negative adverse events or adverse reactions to Vectical to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088.

Vectical drug interactions

Vectical can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Thiazide diuretics
  • Calcium supplements
  • Vitamin D

This list is not exhaustive and other prescription drugs may interact with Lysteda. Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Vectical contraindications

You should not use Vectical if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient calcitriol
  • Have had an allergic reaction to any of the other ingredients in Vectical

Talk to your doctor about your medical condition before using Vectical if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Vectical
  • Have low or high levels of calcium in your blood
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Vectical generic

Vectical is the trademark brand name for calcitriol manufactured by Galderma Laboratories, L.P. A generic version of calcitriol is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Vectical savings through NiceRx.
