What is Voquezna?

Voquezna Triple Pak and Voquezna Dual Pak are manufactured by Takeda who established Phathom Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to develop and market vonoprazan in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Voquezna Triple Pak and Voquezna Dual Pak contain an acid suppressant plus antibiotics and both have FDA approval (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection in adults.

Voquezna Triple Pak contains vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker (PCAB), amoxicillin, a penicillin class antibacterial, and clarithromycin, a macrolide antimicrobial. Voquezna Dual Pak contains vonoprazan and amoxicillin only.

What doses of Voquezna are available?

Voquezna Triple Pak contains vonoprazan tablets 20 mg, clarithromycin tablets 500 mg, and amoxicillin capsules 500 mg. Voquezna Dual Pak containing vonoprazan tablets 20 mg, and amoxicillin capsules 500 mg.

In the modified intent-to-treat patients, H. pylori eradication rates were 85% and 79% with Voquezna Triple and Dual Pak, respectively, in patients who did not have an amoxicillin or clarithromycin resistant strain of H. pylori at baseline.

Voquezna active ingredients

Voquezna Triple Pak contains vonoprazan, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin as the active ingredients. Voquezna Dual Pak contains vonoprazan, and amoxicillin as the active ingredients.

Voquezna side effects

The most common adverse reactions of Voquezna in clinical trials include:

  • Dysgeusia
  • Diarrhea, abdominal pain
  • Vulvovaginal candidiasis
  • Headache
  • Hypertension
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Hemorrhagic/pseudomembranous colitis

In rare instances, Voquezna can cause more serious side effects. These can include:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCAR)
  • Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD)
  • QT Prolongation
  • Hepatotoxicity – discontinue treatment if signs and symptoms of hepatitis occur
  • Serious adverse reactions due to concomitant use with other drugs
  • Embryo-fetal toxicity
  • Myasthenia Gravis

Voquezna drug interactions

Voquezna can interact with other medications. These include:

  • Colchicine
  • Lipid-lowering agents
  • Calcium channel blockers

Voquezna contraindications

You should not use Voquezna if you:

  • Have a known hypersensitivity to vonoprazan, amoxicillin or any other beta-lactams, clarithromycin, or any other macrolide antimicrobial
  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients in Voquezna
  • Are taking any rilpivirine-containing drugs
  • Are taking pimozide, lomitapide, lovastatin, or simvastatin
  • Are taking ergot alkaloids, or colchicine in renal or hepatic impairment
  • Have a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction with the use of clarithromycin
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed

Voquezna Triple Pak is the trademark brand name for vonoprazan, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin manufactured by Phathom Pharmaceuticals, Inc. A generic version of vonoprazan, amoxicillin, and clarithromycin is not available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Voquezna savings through NiceRx.
