Get started todayDupixent (dupilumab) is a prescription interleukin-4 receptor alpha antagonist that is manufactured by Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. It is indicated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of:
- Moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adult and pediatric patients aged 6 months and older who have failed topical therapies or if those topical therapies are not indicated. Dupixent can be used by itself or along with topical corticosteroids.
- As add-on maintenance treatment for moderate-to-severe asthma in adult and pediatric patients aged 6 years with an eosinophilic phenotype or with oral corticosteroid-dependent asthma. Dupixent is not indicated to relieve asthma attacks.
- As add-on maintenance treatment for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) in adults.
- Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) in adult and adolescent patients 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 40kg.
Dupixent is not indicated to treat acute bronchospasm or status asthmaticus.
Dupixent dosage forms and strengths
Dupixent is available as a prefilled syringe with a needle shield for safety and a prefilled pen with the following strengths:
- 300mg/2 ml prefilled syringe
- 200mg/1.14ml prefilled syringe
- 100mg/0.67ml prefilled syringe
- 300mg/2ml single-dose prefilled pen
- 200mg/1.14ml single-dose prefilled pen
Dupixent dosage
The initial loading dose and subsequent dose of Dupixent will depend on several factors including age, weight, and the condition being treated. Your initial dose or the subsequent dose may be adjusted if you have oral corticosteroid-dependent asthma, co-morbid moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, or co-morbid chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis.

Dupixent dosage restrictions
- There is no dosage adjustment necessary in patients with renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) impairment.
How to take Dupixent

- Use Dupixent exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not change your dose or discontinue Dupixent without first talking with your healthcare provider.
- The Dupixent pre-filled pen is for use in adults and children 12 years of age and older. The Dupixent pre-filled syringe is for use in adults and children 6 months of age and older.
- Remove Dupixent from the refrigerator and allow it to reach room temperature without removing the needle cap.
- Dupixent is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin). You or your caregiver should receive training on the proper way to prepare and inject Dupixent.
- You can inject Dupixent into your thigh, upper arm, or stomach. You should not administer Dupixent within 2 inches of your belly button. Rotate your injection site with each dose of Dupixent.
- Children 12 years and older should be given Dupixent under the supervision of an adult. In children under the age of 12, Dupixent should be given by a caregiver.
- If your dose schedule is once weekly and you miss a dose, give the missed injection immediately and then start a new weekly dose schedule from the time you remembered to take your injection.
- If you miss a dose while taking Dupixent every other week, give the injection within 7 days from the missed dose, then continue on your original dosing schedule. If you don’t give the missed dose within 7 days, wait until your next scheduled dose.
- If you miss a dose while taking Dupixent every 4 weeks, give the injection within 7 days from the missed dose, then continue with your original dosing schedule. If you don’t give the missed dose within 7 days, start a new every 4-week dosing schedule from the time you remember your injection.
- Store Dupixent in the refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F) in the original carton. You may store Dupixent at room temperature up to 25°C (77°F) for up to 14 days. Discard any unused Dupixent after 14 days. Do not freeze or shake Dupixent.
- If you inject too much Dupixent, get immediate emergency medical attention or contact the Poison Center right away at 1-800-222-1222.

What are some side effects of Dupixent?

Some of the most common side effects (incidence ≥1%) of Dupixent include:
- Injection site reactions such as redness, swelling, pruritus (itching), and pain
- Pink eye (conjunctivitis) and keratitis
- Oral herpes (cold sores)
- Trouble sleeping
- Dry eye
Dupixent can cause some serious side effects including:
- Eosinophilia (increase in a type of white blood cells)
- Joint pain (arthralgia)
- Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis (rash, swelling, hives, and shortness of breath) and serum sickness.

What are some drug interactions with Dupixent?
When Dupixent is taken with other medications, they can interact and change how they work. Make sure your healthcare professional is aware of all the prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements you take. You should avoid live vaccines right before and during treatment with Dupixent.
Are there any contraindications or precautions with Dupixent?
Dupixent is contraindicated in patients who have had an allergic reaction to Dupixent or any of its excipients. You should be treated for any helminth infections before beginning Dupixent. It is not known if Dupixent affects your immune response to these parasitic infections.
How long does Dupixent stay in your system?
The half-life of Dupixent is based on the way your body breaks down endogenous (naturally made) IgG. It is estimated that Dupixent will remain in the bloodstream of adults and adolescents 12 to 17 years of age for 9 to 13 weeks. In pediatric patients 6 to 11 years of age, it will remain for up to 19 weeks, and in patients aged 6 months to 5 years, up to 32 weeks.
Is it safe to use Dupixent while pregnant or breastfeeding?
It is not known if Dupixent causes fetal harm. Human IgG antibodies are known to cross the placental barrier so Dupixent may be transmitted to the fetus. There is a pregnancy exposure registry for women using Dupixent while they are pregnant. It is not known if Dupixent is found in breast milk. Discuss with your healthcare provider the risks of taking Dupixent during lactation.
Will lab monitoring be done when taking Dupixent?
Dupixent does not require any initial lab testing or ongoing lab monitoring during treatment.
How well does Dupixent work for atopic dermatitis (eczema)?
In clinical trials, more than half of the patients using Dupixent for 4 months reported their eczema symptoms were reduced by almost 75%.
