We may be able to help you access patient assistance for other medications as well as Olux, so please tell us about any medications that you have been prescribed.

If we determine that you may be eligible for Olux assistance, we will handle the full enrollment process on your behalf. We will work with your healthcare provider to prepare and submit all the documents required for you to enroll. If you are successfully enrolled in the Olux patient assistance program, we will also request your Olux medication refills on your behalf for up to 1 year. At the end of your enrollment period, we will contact you for updated details and seek to re-enroll you in the program.

What is Olux?

Olux is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. It is a topical steroid used to treat skin conditions such as moderate to severe plaque psoriasis of the scalp and mild to moderate plaque psoriasis of non-scalp areas of the body excluding the face and intertriginous areas, as well as dermatitis, and eczema in patients 12 years of age and older.

What doses of Olux are available?

Olux is available as a foam, in the following doses: 0.05%.

Apply a thin layer to the affected areas of skin twice daily, for a maximum of 2 consecutive weeks. Do not use more than 50 grams in 7 days or more than 21 capfuls per week. Discontinue treatment when control is obtained. Do not use it on the face, groin, or axillae, or if skin atrophy is present at the treatment site.

Olux foam is flammable. Avoid fire, open flames, or smoking during and immediately following application. Store at room temperature 68° to 77°F (20° to 25°C).

Olux active ingredients

Olux contains clobetasol propionate, as the active ingredient.

Olux side effects

The most common side effects of Olux in clinical trials include:

  • Application site burning, stinging, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness

In rare instances, Olux can cause more serious adverse effects. These can include:

  • Reversible HPA axis suppression with the potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency. The risk is increased with the use of high-potency topical corticosteroids, used over a large surface area, areas under occlusion, long-term use, liver failure, and in pediatric patients
  • Increased risk of cataracts and glaucoma
  • Striae
  • Hypopigmentation
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • Allergic contact dermatitis
  • Secondary infection
  • Hypertrichosis
  • Miliaria
  • Excessive hair growth
  • Acne
  • Hair bumps (folliculitis)
  • Cushing’s syndrome
  • Linear growth retardation
  • Delayed weight gain
  • Intracranial hypertension

Olux drug interactions

Other drugs may interact with Olux, including prescription drugs and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell your health care provider about all of your medication including any supplements you are taking.

Olux contraindications

You should not use Olux if you:

  • Are allergic to the active ingredient clobetasol propionate
  • Have had an allergic reaction to any of the other ingredients in Olux
  • Are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant

Talk to your doctor before using Olux if you:

  • Are taking any of the medications that could interact with Olux
  • Have any type of skin infection
  • Have a history of skin reactions to steroid medications
  • Have liver disease
  • Have an adrenal gland disorder
  • Have diabetes
  • Have other skin or scalp conditions such as rosacea, or perioral dermatitis
  • Have immune system problems
  • Are breastfeeding or are planning to breastfeed – It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk

Olux generic

Olux is the trademark brand name for clobetasol propionate manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. A generic version of clobetasol propionate is available. Generic drugs are generally cheaper than brand-name drugs, but you can still find Olux savings through NiceRx.
