What is Pulmicort Flexhaler?

Pulmicort Flexhaler is a medication taken to manage and reduce asthma symptoms in adults and children aged six years and older. There’s no cure for asthma, but you can manage your symptoms with medications like Pulmicort Flexhaler. You typically inhale Pulmicort Flexhaler once a day, at the same time each day (your prescribing doctor may tell you to take it differently). It helps to reduce inflammation in your lungs and airways, giving you long-term relief from your asthma symptoms.

Asthma is an inflammatory disease that affects your lungs and airways. It can cause them to become inflamed and narrowed, which can make it difficult to breathe. Your chest is also likely to feel tight, and you may cough and wheeze. The condition is thought to be caused by a mix of genetics and other factors including poor air quality and pollution and pesticides. Allergens including mold, dust mites, and animal fur and feathers, are all associated with asthma.

Asthma makes you more prone to bronchospasms, sometimes called asthma attacks; a sudden onset of asthma symptoms caused by a rapid tightening of the muscles in your airways and lungs. An asthma attack can make it very difficult to breathe and, in some cases, can be fatal.

Pulmicort Flexhaler active ingredients

The active ingredient in Pulmicort Flexhaler is called budesonide. It’s a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. When you inhale Pulmicort Flexhaler, molecules of budesonide attach themselves to areas on the cells inside your airways and lungs called glucocorticoid receptors. This activates the glucocorticoid receptors and triggers a process in your cells that causes anti-inflammatory substances to be made and released. This reduces inflammation and can lessen your asthma symptoms.
