What is Vyleesi?

Vyleesi is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by AMAG Pharmaceuticals. It is a melanocortin receptor agonist used to treat premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) characterized by low sexual desire that causes stress or interpersonal difficulty and is not due to a medical or psychiatric condition, problems within the relationship, or the effects of other drug substances.

Vyleesi (bremelanotide) and Addyi (flibanserin) are both used to treat low sex drive in women who haven’t gone through menopause yet. They are not recommended to enhance sexual performance.

What doses of Vyleesi are available?

Vyleesi is available as a subcutaneous injection, in the following doses: 1.75 mg/0.3 mL solution.

Inject 1.75 mg subcutaneously via the autoinjector to the abdomen or thigh, as needed, at least 45 minutes before anticipated sexual activity. Do not use more than one dose within 24 hours.

Vyleesi side effects

The most common side effects of Vyleesi in clinical trials compared to placebo include:

  • Transient increase in blood pressure and decrease in heart rate
