What is Xofluza?

Xofluza is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by Genentech, Inc. It is classed as a polymerase acidic endonuclease inhibitor for the treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza in patients 12 years of age and above who have had symptoms for no longer than 48 hours, that are healthy, or are at high risk of developing influenza-related complications.

Influenza viruses may change over time, with the emergence of resistant strains that could reduce the clinical effect of antiviral drugs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all people aged 6 months and older should receive a flu vaccine every flu season.

What doses of Xofluza are available?

Xofluza is available in tablet form, in the following doses: 20 mg and 40 mg tablets.

Take Xofluza orally with or without food, as a single dose. Your dosage is based on your weight. Take this medication at least 4 hours before or 2 hours after other products containing aluminum, iron, zinc, selenium, calcium, or magnesium. Examples include antacids, vitamins, minerals, dairy products, and calcium-enriched juice.

Please read the prescribing information and always speak with a healthcare professional for medical advice about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
