What is Glucagen Hypokit?

Glucagen Hypokit is used to treat low blood sugar. It is an emergency injection for diabetics. People with diabetes often suffer from low blood sugar due to various reasons. The problem can normally be fixed by eating carbohydrates but when dangerously low blood sugar levels are reached a glucagon injection is needed immediately. Having low blood sugar for too long can cause seizure, coma, or death.

Glucagen Hypokit contains the prescription medicine glucagon,  a naturally occurring hormone. Glucagon makes the liver produce glucose quickly and release it into the bloodstream. Within 10 minutes the blood glucose levels increase. Glucagen Hypokit should only be used to treat low blood sugar if the person is unable to eat, passes out, or is having a seizure.

Glucagen Hypokit active ingredients

Glucagen Hypokit injection comes in a bright orange case with picture instructions, a vial of glucagon, and a syringe. It is injected under the skin, into a muscle, or into a vein. Be certain you know how to give a Glucagen Hypokit injection before you need to use it. A healthcare professional will show you how to do this. You need to make sure that your friends and family know what low blood sugar is and what to do about it. The people close to you will be glad to know how to help.

The dose for a child is lower than an adult dose and may also be based on how much the child weighs. Your doctor will give you careful instructions. After the injection, you should eat a fast-acting source of sugar e.g. fruit juice, hard candy, or raisins followed by a small meal.
