What is Granix?

Granix contains the prescription medicine tbo-filgatrism, a man-made version of a substance that is naturally produced in the body called colony stimulating factor (CSF). CSF promotes the production of white blood cells that help your body fight against infection.

Granix is used to reduce the length of time you suffer from severe neutropenia, a lack of certain white blood cells caused by having chemotherapy with certain cancer medications. Granix is used for the treatment of adults and children at least 1-month-old.

Granix active ingredients

Tbo-filgrastim is a human granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF),  produced using recombinant DNA technology. Colony-stimulating factor stimulates stem cells in the body to grow and develop into specific blood cells, usually white blood cells.  Tbo-filgrastim works by attaching to specific points on G-CSF receptors and stimulating the production of certain white blood cells known as neutrophils.

Granix is given as a subcutaneous injection under the skin. A healthcare professional may show you how to use the medication yourself. Your first dose of tbo-filgrastim is normally given within 24 hours after your chemotherapy. You will have daily injections until your blood cell counts return to normal. Granix should not be injected within 24 hours before your next chemotherapy. Treatment with Granix should not be stopped without consulting your doctor and you will need regular tests while using this medicine.
