What is Intelence?

Intelence contains the prescription medicine etravirine which is classed as an antiviral medicine. Intelence can not be used alone. It is always used in combination with other antiviral drugs to treat the symptoms and to stop the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in your body. HIV is the virus that can cause acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Intelence is used with other antiviral medicines to treat adults and children 6 years of age and older. In children, doses are based on weight for this medicine. Tell your doctor if your child has any changes in weight. Intelence is not a cure for HIV or AIDS.

Intelence active ingredients

Etravirine works by blocking a specific enzyme known as HIV reverse transcriptase from working in your body. Blocking this enzyme prevents the production of more HIV DNA. This reduces the amount of the HIV virus in your body and slows it from spreading.

Intelence is usually taken once per day with a full meal. It is very important to always take the medicine with food and exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You may need regular blood tests, as well as kidney and liver function tests while taking Intelence.

Make sure you get your medication refilled before you run out completely. If you have hepatitis B you may develop liver symptoms after stopping taking this medication, even months after. You may need to have your liver function checked for several months after you have stopped using Intelence. HIV/AIDS is usually treated with a combination of drugs. Do not take Intelence as your only HIV medication.
