What is Mavenclad?
Mavenclad is an FDA-approved medication distributed by EMD Serono a registered trademark of Merck. Mavenclad is a purine antimetabolite indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), including relapsing-remitting disease (RRMS) and active secondary progressive MS, in adults.
Because of Mavenclads safety profile, it is generally recommended for patients who have had an inadequate response to or are unable to tolerate an alternate drug indicated for the treatment of MS. Mavenclad is not recommended for use in patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) due to its safety profile.
Mavenclad is used as a disease-modifying therapy for MS, meaning the drug works to slow down the worsening of MS. Clinical trials show that people taking Mavenclad had fewer, smaller, or no new areas of active MS (lesions).
Warning: See the full prescribing information for the complete boxed warning. Mavenclad may increase the risk of malignancy and is contraindicated in patients with current malignancy. Mavenclad is contraindicated for use in pregnant women and in women and men of reproductive potential who do not plan to use effective contraception.
What doses of Mavenclad are available?
Mavenclad is available in tablet form, in the following doses: 10 mg.
The recommended dose is determined by body weight and is given in two treatment courses spread over 2 years, separated by about a year. There are 2 treatment cycles in each course. In each cycle, you will take the medicine for 4 or 5 days in a row. The 2 cycles are separated by about a month.
Take Mavenclad with a full glass of water with or without food. Use dry hands to remove a tablet from the foil blister pack and wash your hands after handling a tablet. Swallow the tablet whole, do not crush, chew, or break it.
Please see the full prescribing information and medication guide, including serious side effects, for additional important safety information, and always speak with your healthcare provider for medical advice or about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.
Mavenclad active ingredients
