Get started todayWixela Inhub (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol inhalation powder) is a combination of an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and a long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) that is manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. Wixela Inhub is FDA-approved for:
- Asthma treatment in adults and children 4 years of age and older that are not adequately controlled on a long-term asthma control medication.
- Maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to reduce exacerbations.
Wixela Inhub is not a replacement for your short-acting rescue inhaler such as Proventil HFA (albuterol HFA) and should not be used to treat sudden breathing problems.
How does Wixela Inhub work?
Wixela Inhub contains an inhaled corticosteroid (fluticasone propionate) and a LABA (salmeterol) that helps reduce symptoms of asthma and COPD. COPD is a group of conditions that includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
Fluticasone propionate reduces the inflammation in your lungs by blocking your immune system’s response to allergens (foreign substances). It does this through a variety of actions on inflammatory cell types such as mast cells and eosinophils and mediators such as histamines and leukotrienes.
Salmeterol is a long-acting beta-agonist that stimulates beta2-receptors found on the smooth muscle in your airways. Stimulation of these beta2-receptors causes the smooth muscle in your bronchioles to relax, which leads to bronchodilation and increased airflow in your lungs.
