How do I apply for the Stribild patient assistance program?

Applying for the Stribild patient assistance program through NiceRx is simple. Begin by completing the enrollment application on our website. We will ask for details about your healthcare provider, your insurance plan, and your household income. This information is required by the pharmaceutical manufacturers that supply your medication. What is Stribild?

Stribild contains a combination of the prescription medicines cobicistat, elvitegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir. Elvitegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir are antiviral medicines that stop HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) from multiplying in your body. Cobicistat blocks enzymes in your liver from breaking these medicines down. This allows the antiviral medicines to be given more safely and effectively at lower doses.

Stribild is used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and children 12 years of age and older, who weigh at least 35 kg, have no history of antiretroviral treatment, or to replace the current antiretroviral treatment in those who are virologically suppressed (HIV-1 RNA less than 50 copies/mL) and on a stable antiretroviral treatment for at least 6 months with no treatment failure and no known resistance to the individual ingredients of Stribild.

Stribild active ingredients

Emtricitabine is a man-made version of cytidine. It is converted by enzymes in your body into a form that is added into the DNA of the virus causing the production of that DNA to stop.

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is chemically changed by enzymes in the body to form tenofovir diphosphate. Tenofovir diphosphate blocks the action of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (an enzyme) initially, and also by causing termination of the DNA chain once it is added into the viral DNA chain itself.

Elvitegravir blocks the transfer of HIV-1 DNA strand activity of HIV-1 integrase. HIV-1 integrase is an enzyme encoded with the viral DNA that is required for viral replication. Blocking this enzyme stops the integration of HIV-1 DNA into normal cell DNA. This blocks the production of the HIV-1 provirus and the spread of the viral infection.

Cobicistat blocks the action of specific enzymes called cytochrome P450. This allows medicines such as elvitegravir which is normally broken down by cytochrome P450 to remain effective for longer periods of time.
