Get started todayTrelegy Ellipta is a combination of 3 different medications that is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for the treatment of COPD and asthma symptoms. It contains a muscarinic antagonist (umeclidinium), an inhaled corticosteroid (fluticasone furoate), and a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (vilanterol trifenatate). The active ingredients of Trelegy Ellipta are in separate blisters in powder form inside the device.
Trelegy Ellipta is FDA-approved for the maintenance treatment of adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
Trelegy works by 3 different mechanisms of action. Fluticasone is an ICS that helps to decrease swelling in your lungs by switching off multiple activated inflammatory genes. Umeclidinium bromide is an anticholinergic medication that causes bronchodilation by blocking the M3 receptor in your lungs. Vilanterol is a long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) that helps improve lung function by relaxing the smooth muscles in your airways.
Your Trelegy Ellipta inhaler is not a rescue inhaler like Ventolin (albuterol). It should not be used for asthma exacerbations. You will still need your rescue inhaler to treat sudden breathing problems.
