How do I apply for the Trogarzo patient assistance program?

Our process makes it as easy as possible to apply for the Trogarzo patient assistance program. Begin by completing the enrollment application form on our website. Tell us about any medications that you are taking, including Trogarzo, your healthcare provider, your insurance plan, and your household income. This information is required by the pharmaceutical manufacturers who will supply the medication, so it is important to make sure this information is accurate and up to date.

We will review the information that you have provided to determine whether you are eligible for patient assistance. What is Trogarzo?

Trogarzo is an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) approved medication manufactured by TaiMed Biologics USA Corp. and distributed by Theratechnologies Inc.

Trogarzo is a CD4-directed post-attachment HIV-1 inhibitor and is used with other antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infections in heavily treatment-experienced adults with multidrug-resistant HIV-1 infection failing their current antiretroviral regimen.

The use of Trogarzo is likely to be reserved for rare instances when an adult has developed multiclass antiretroviral drug resistance to HIV treatment and for whom a complete regimen cannot be created from other options. Trogarzo is not a cure for HIV-1 infections or AIDS, but it may delay damage to the immune system and the development of infections and diseases associated with AIDS. Trogarzo will maintain baseline viral load suppression for nearly 10 years.

What doses of Trogarzo are available?

Trogarzo is available in injection form, in the following doses: 200 mg/1.33 mL (150 mg/mL) in a single-dose vial.

Trogarzo is given intravenously as an IV infusion. It is given as a single loading dose of 2,000 mg followed by a maintenance dose of 800 mg every 2 weeks, after dilution in 250 mL of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP.

Please read the full prescribing information and safety information and always speak with your healthcare provider about any changes to your dose so they can monitor and evaluate your condition.

Trogarzo active ingredients

The active ingredient of Trogarzo is ibalizumab-uiyk, an antiviral medicine that prevents human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from multiplying in your body.

Ibalizumab-uiyk, a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody, prevents HIV-1 from infecting CD4+ T cells by binding to domain 2 of CD4 and interfering with post-attachment steps needed for the entry of HIV-1 virus particles into host cells and preventing the viral transmission that occurs via cell-cell fusion.

Trogarzo side effects

The most common side effects of Trogarzo in clinical trials include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Rash

In rare instances, Trogarzo can cause more serious adverse effects. These can include:

  • Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) has been reported in patients treated with combination antiretroviral therapies

Your doctor will assess the benefits of using Trogarzo against your risk of side effects. Patients are encouraged to report negative side effects or adverse reactions of Trogarzo to the FDA. Visit www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call 1-800-FDA-1088.
