Am I eligible for Xalkori patient assistance?
We review each Xalkori enrollment application individually to determine if you are eligible. Each assistance program has its own eligibility criteria and the factors considered by most programs are:
- I am a permanent, legal resident of the United States or Puerto Rico
- I am uninsured or my insurance doesn’t cover my medication
- I meet certain income eligibility requirements
How do I apply for the Xalkori patient assistance program?
Our process makes it as easy as possible to apply for the Xalkori patient assistance program. Begin by completing the enrollment application form on our website. Tell us about any medications that you are taking, including Xalkori. You must also provide details about your healthcare provider, your insurance plan, and your household income. This is required by the pharmaceutical manufacturers who will supply the medication, so it is important to make sure this information is accurate and up to date.
We will review the information that you have provided to determine whether you are eligible for patient assistance. If we can pre-qualify you for assistance, NiceRx will handle the full enrollment process on your behalf. If you are approved by the pharmaceutical company, you will typically start receiving your medication in 6 – 8 weeks.

What is Xalkori?
Xalkori contains the prescription medicine crizotinib. Crizotinib is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer that has epidermal growth factor receptors as a genetic marker. Your doctor will carry out a test to make sure Xalkori is correct for you. Xalkori can be used alone or with other medications:
- To stop your lung cancer from coming back after you’ve had surgery to remove the tumor
- If your lung cancer has spread to other parts of your body
It is not known if Xalkori is safe and effective in children younger than 1-year-old. Xalkori should not be used if you are pregnant, or if you are a man and your partner is pregnant. Crizotinib can cause life-threatening birth defects or can cause the death of a baby if the mother or the father is taking this medicine at the time of conception or during pregnancy.
Xalkori active ingredients
Crizotinib blocks the action of an enzyme in the body called kinase. Kinase normally attaches to and stimulates the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Stimulation of this receptor causes epidermal growth factor (EGF) to stimulate the growth and spread of different types of cells in your body. In the body, crizotinib is thought to be converted into two more active versions of itself that have a greater effect on blocking the effect of kinase. This ultimately leads to a reduction in the growth and spread of cancer cells in your body.
Xalkori is usually taken twice per day, with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush, chew, break, or open it. You may need frequent medical tests while you are taking Xalkori to be sure it is not causing harmful effects.
