Glossary

The terms, in plain English.

Every term you'll meet at NiceRx, what it means, and what it means for you. Definitions are kept deliberately short and neutral; the "for you" line is where NiceRx's own policy applies.

Compounded medicationPharmacy

A medication prepared by a state-licensed compounding pharmacy for an individual prescription, a specific dose, form or combination a provider has decided is appropriate for that patient.

Compounded medications are permitted under federal law but are not FDA-approved and do not undergo FDA review for safety, effectiveness or manufacturing. NiceRx prescriptions are filled by state-licensed U.S. compounding pharmacy partners.

503A pharmacyPharmacy

A state-licensed compounding pharmacy that prepares medication for a specific patient's prescription, regulated primarily by the state board of pharmacy.

Most NiceRx pharmacy partners are 503A pharmacies. Some source medication from 503B outsourcing facilities.

503B outsourcing facilityPharmacy

An FDA-registered facility that compounds medication in larger batches, subject to FDA inspection and current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) requirements.

Some NiceRx pharmacy partners obtain medication from 503B facilities. A 503B product is still a compounded medication and is not FDA-approved.

GLP-1 receptor agonistWeight loss

A class of medication that mimics the hormone GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist.

Used for weight management under a provider's supervision. Dose is increased gradually over several weeks.

GIP/GLP-1 dual agonistWeight loss

A medication that acts on two gut-hormone pathways, GIP and GLP-1, involved in appetite and blood-sugar regulation. Tirzepatide is a GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist.

Sometimes described as "dual-action". Like GLP-1 medications, it is titrated gradually.

SemaglutideWeight loss

A GLP-1 receptor agonist taken once weekly by injection. The active ingredient in brand-name Ozempic® and Wegovy®.

NiceRx offers compounded semaglutide, prepared by a licensed pharmacy for your prescription. It is not FDA-approved.

TirzepatideWeight loss

A GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist taken once weekly by injection. The active ingredient in brand-name Mounjaro® and Zepbound®.

NiceRx offers compounded tirzepatide, prepared by a licensed pharmacy for your prescription. It is not FDA-approved.

Microdose (GLP-1)Weight loss

A lower, steady dose of a GLP-1 or GIP/GLP-1 medication, typically 0.25–0.5 mg semaglutide or 2.5–5 mg tirzepatide weekly, rather than the standard escalating schedule.

Chosen by some patients and providers for a gentler start or ongoing maintenance. Whether it is appropriate is a provider's decision.

TitrationDosing

Increasing a medication dose gradually over time, usually every four weeks, so the body adjusts and side effects are minimised.

Your provider sets your titration schedule. Standard dosing charts show a typical path; yours may differ.

Maintenance doseDosing

The dose at which a patient stays once titration is complete and the provider judges it effective and well tolerated.

With NiceRx, your monthly price is the same at every dose, including maintenance.

BMI (Body Mass Index)Eligibility

Weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. One of several factors a provider considers when assessing weight-loss treatment.

BMI alone does not determine eligibility. Only a licensed provider can decide whether treatment is appropriate for you.

TelehealthCare

Healthcare delivered remotely: an online assessment reviewed by a licensed provider, with messaging or video where needed.

NiceRx providers are licensed in the state where you live. Some states require a video visit; you're told before you pay.

Cash-payPricing

Paying for care directly rather than through insurance. No claims, prior authorizations or coverage denials.

NiceRx is cash-pay. Your monthly price includes evaluation, medication and delivery.
