What is Tresiba?

Tresiba is a prescription medication used to treat type 1 and type 2 diabetes in adults and children over 1 year old. Tresiba is a long-acting form of insulin, meaning it can help lower your blood sugar over longer periods. You take the medication by injecting it under your skin (subcutaneous injection), using either a syringe of a pre-filled FlexTouch self-injecting pen. You typically inject Tresiba every 24 hours at the same time each day.

Tresiba active ingredients

The active ingredient in Tresiba is called insulin degludec. It’s a type of synthetic (man-made) insulin that works in the same way as the insulin your body makes naturally, except it’s been designed to be slower acting, so it works over a longer time period. When you inject Tresiba under your skin, insulin degludec is released into your bloodstream. It travels around your body and helps your cells absorb sugar from your blood. Insulin degludec can be active for over 40 hours, so it can cover your insulin needs for well over a day.
